Melbourne, Australia, 2 February 2026 – Evinco Therapeutics is pleased to announce that its CEO and Executive Chair, Prof. Alan Trounson AO will deliver an upcoming President’s Lecture at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday 3 February at 11am (AST).
Professor Alan Trounson AO is an internationally acclaimed pioneer of IVF and stem cell research, with significant advancements in cancer immunotherapy as well as the development of novel strategies for neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease. Over several decades, his work has helped shape modern approaches to cell-based therapies, bridging fundamental science and clinical application.
In this President’s Lecture, titled, A New Approach to Alzheimer’s Disease Using Immune Cell-based Therapy, Professor Trounson will discuss emerging advances in cell therapies focusing on novel approaches to treating Alzheimer’s Disease.
Alzheimer’s disease is a leading cause of death with no curative treatment, and existing therapies offer only modest benefit with notable side effects. Serendipitous clinical observations with autologous natural killer (NK) cell therapy showed unexpected cognitive improvements in Alzheimer’s patients, later supported by Phase II data where most patients responded to high-dose NK cell treatment.
Evinco Therapeutics was recently launched to build on this work by developing NK cell–derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) as a novel therapy. These EVs enhance microglial clearance of amyloid, slow amyloid aggregation in vitro, and outperform EVs from serum or mesenchymal stem cells. Current studies are exploring their effects on microglial polarisation, astrocytes and resident T cells, with intranasal delivery to the brain under investigation in animal models.
The President’s Lecture series brings world-leading thinkers to KAUST to engage the university community in dialogue on scientific excellence, innovation, and leadership.
